A couple weeks ago, we volunteered our time and our chipper to help Greenhills School remove invasive species from their property. Organized by the 9th Grade Principal, Emily Wilson-Tobin, approximately thirty ninth graders participated in the event. Most of what we removed from the campus was buckthorn, perhaps the most notorious invasive plant here in our area. Over the years, the buckthorn had spread so much that it was preventing natives from growing in the wooded area behind the school. With the help of the Natural Area Preservation team, we successfully removed the plants and applied herbicide to their stumps so that they are less likely to re-sprout in future years. Emerson School Planting
This past month, the crew went out to plant some trees with students over at Emerson School. Here are some photos from the day. We’re looking forward to watching the trees grow…and the kids along with them!
